EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR


POSITION TITLE:
Education & Development Coordinator
ASSIGNMENT: Education & Development Department - Maryland/DC
REPORTS TO: Director, Education & Development Department
CLASSIFICATION: Permanent - Unlimited

Qualifications: Experience and/or training in designing a range of participatory or popular education based curriculum for workers and/or social justice activists; Experience and knowledge of applying popular education or other forms of participatory education facilitation skills; Experience training and/or mentoring others to develop as facilitators; Interest and commitment to advancing participatory, anti-oppressive, worker-based education; Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills; Good self-organizing and time-management skills; Knowledge of 1199 SEIU and/or US labor movement; Ability to travel; Valid drivers license; Strong ability to use computer programs (MS Word, MS Excel) Intranet/Internet, Email and other related programs; A combination of work and educational experiences is required.

Job Summary: The primary responsibilities for this position are to coordinate member, Delegate, Staff and Leadership trainings, and to assist in meeting the training and development needs stemming from Maryland/DCs area overall work plan. In order to help build the educational capacity of our union, this position is also responsible to:

  • Facilitate workshops, courses, meetings and other educational sessions;
  • Train staff and members as facilitators;
  • Develop curriculum for workshops, courses, campaigns, and conferences;
  • Administer assessments of programs and participants;
  • Submit monthly reports to the Director, Education & Development Department;
  • Participate in monthly department meetings and bi-weekly Coordinator's conference call;
  • Attend and service the Education Committee meetings;
  • Meet with the Maryland/DC leadership team to set education and development calendar that meets the Division's needs;
  • Work with support staff in both the Education & Development Department and throughout the Division to set logistics and communication for trainings;
  • Work in collaboration with other Education & Development Coordinators to design and facilitate union-wide trainings;
  • Work with all staff in the Education Department to advance the union-wide education and development work plan.
  • Good project management skills.
