The Communications Coordinator handles all aspects of internal and external communications in support of our organizing, legislative and contract bargaining campaigns.

Description: |
- Write and edit communications pieces, including electronic communications, newsletters, flyers, press releases, statements and various other print intended both for union members and the public.
- Excellent writing, copy editing and proofreading skills.
- Develop public relations campaign strategies, timelines and plans to support organizing, contract bargaining and legislative goals.
- Coordinate all aspects of press conferences and other media events including but not limited to acting as spokesperson, training of spokespersons, working with reporters and news media, writing talking points.
- Develop and coordinate all of the moving parts in a campaign for internal and external communications purposes.
- Produce and edit video clips of internal and external events for posting on union web site.
- Photograph events, leaders and members for posting on web site or for print or electronic communications.
- Oversee in-house design, layout and production of print media pieces, and work as liaison with off-site professional printers when necessary.

Qualifications: |
- A strong commitment to social justice and the goals and principles of our union.
- Communications work experience with a solid background in labor/unions or advocacy groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively explain our goals and issues to community members, editors and reporters.
- The ability to strategize and implement plans in the context of a campaign.
- Graphic art design and layout skills for electronic and print projects.
- Ability to take photographs of people and events, adjust digitally and convert to appropriate formats for various electronic and print media applications.
- Ability to coordinate jobs with various employees and staff members.
- Ability to take initiative, to work with a team, and to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- Ability to produce Powerpoint reports, slide shows
and videos.
- General computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Word with computer design experience in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Quark a real plus.
- Willingness to work long, irregular hours, sometimes including weekends, early mornings and evenings and last-minute assignments. Ability to thrive in a high-intensity and fast-paced environment.
