ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
SEIU Local 32BJ represents over 110,000 property service workers throughout five states and currently is the largest property service worker union in the country. SEIU Local 32BJ’s Contract & Grievance Center, responsible for the Union’s contract enforcement, implementation of grievance arbitration procedures and maintenance of the Union’s contracts in NYC, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and District of Columbia, is seeking to hire an Assistant Director. Applicants should possess 3-7 years of experience working for or with labor organizations, administering their grievance and arbitration procedures and have a strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements. The Assistant Director will be expected to jointly supervise (with the Director and Deputy Director) a staff of three attorneys (responsible for handling the Union’s arbitrations), sixteen grievance representatives and other administrative staff throughout the Union’s jurisdiction. The Assistant Director will be responsible for grievance review, merits assessments and providing training on contract interpretation. The Assistant Director will have remote oversight (with limited travel) for the Union’s offices outside New York City concerning contract interpretation issues and grievance arbitration activity. Candidates must be systems orientated and have the ability to set-up and enforce protocols and reporting systems. Excellent benefits and a competitive union-side salary are offered.
