LEAD RESEARCHER POSITION IN NEW YORK CITY

SEIU Local 32BJ

Help workers gain better living conditions.  Have a direct impact on immigrant rights.  Make a difference.  The Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ is looking for activist researchers that have experience in the labor movement, community organizing, or political work to support the union’s campaigns to win significant wage gains, health insurance, full-time work and organizing rights for building service workers.

The Research Department plays a vital role in the union’s organizing campaigns by conducting corporate research and developing and implementing strategies and tactics to advance campaign goals.  Work includes tracking real estate trends and key real estate players, performing industry, company and individual research, providing contract costing analysis and other support for collective bargaining, conducting public policy research, and recruiting, leading, developing, and mentoring staff.

Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to progressive social change and activist experience
  • Strong technical research and quantitative skills; union research experience preferred
  • Familiarity with corporate research, financial analysis, employment law or investigative journalism
  • Experience with a variety of computer-based research tools
  • Excellent writing ability
  • Excellent political and internal organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a team environment
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in leading strategic campaigns in support of organizing and/or bargaining
  • Proven ability to lead research staff within a labor or progressive community organization; some supervisory experience preferred
  • Proven public policy research experience preferred

Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
