STRATEGIC RESEARCH MANAGER
SEIU Local 32BJ

The Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ is recruiting a Manager for its Strategic Research Department based in New York City.   SEIU Local 32BJ is the largest building service workers union in the country, representing more than 100,000 members.

The Manager of the Strategic Research Department works with other department heads and area leaders to develop and implement research-based strategies and tactics to grow the membership of the union and support bargaining that raises standards.  In addition to providing corporate research, The Department has been charged with expanding the union’s expertise in the areas of public policy research, costing and other collective bargaining support and industry/sector analysis. The manager coordinates research in these areas throughout the union’s eight-state jurisdiction and supervises a staff of 7 researchers and lead researchers based in New York City (primarily), Philadelphia and D.C. 

Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years of research experience
  • Demonstrated project management and supervision experience
  • Strong commitment to the labor movement and progressive social change
  • Strong technical research and quantitative skills
  • Expertise in corporate and industry and public policy research
  • Experience with a variety of computer-based research tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent political and internal organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a team environment
  • Experience in leading strategic campaigns in support of organizing and/or bargaining
  • Proven ability to lead research staff

Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
