ASSISTANT COMPTROLLER
Summary
Actors' Equity Association (AEA) the trade union representing
the 48,000 Actors and Stage Managers of the professional theater throughout the
United States , is seeking an Assistant Comptroller. The Assistant Comptroller
assists in planning, developing, and implementing goals, policies, priorities,
procedures, and accounting controls within the division of assigned responsibility
by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities
Liaison:
- Represent the finance department or, as delegated, the comptrollers office
to outside groups or other areas of the association (such as the Department of
Labor, state agencies, boards and committees, allied institutions, or other departments
of the association)
- Promote and implement financial practices that
align to the Associations polices and goals.
Management & Maintenance

Direct and participate in the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers for
all entities.
- Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and analyzing
of monthly operating results against budget.
- Assist in the oversight
of the daily operations of the finance department staff and assume full responsibility
when the Comptroller is out of the office.
- Create an accounting
manual.
- Supervise and maintain signature authority with all banks
and investment companies.
- Establish controls for new financial
systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems.
- Operate
at a high level competency in governmental regulations and law as it relates to
labor organizations, not for profits, and pension plans.
Reporting
-
Prepare profit and loss statements and monthly closing and accounting reports.
- Receive and fill requests for ad hoc reports for various internal
departments.
- Coordinate the filing of government forms and reports.
- Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.
- Coordinate special projects and reports.
Skills/Experience/Education
- Demonstrates proficiency in Not-For-Profit accounting, budget preparation, and
reporting.
- Possess masterful skill in QuickBooks and Microsoft
Office Software with emphasis in Excel.
- Experience with Microsoft
Dynamics GP Accounting Software desirable.
- Bachelors degree
from four-year college or University within area of assigned responsibility; and
five to seven years related experience and training, or equivalent combination
of education and experience
- Labor Union and/or Not-for Profit accounting
or auditing experience a huge plus
Compensation
- Salary range
75k 80k
