Title: Per Diem Organizer, E&GW Program
Southern New Jersey location
Qualifications: Collective bargaining experience required, preferably elected NYSNA LBU leader. Extensive travel and varying hours required.
Reports to: Associate Director for Organizing,
Economic & General Welfare Program
Position Category: Per diem, represented by Local 19, Workers United a/w SEIU
Hourly rate: Minimum $50/hour
Position Summary:
- Provide general service to bargaining unit membership.
- Assist with internal organizing/contract campaigns.
- Involved in communication, negotiation and handling grievances.
- Cover leaves of absence for nursing representatives/ program representatives/ labor representatives/ organizers, as needed.
- Represent assigned local bargaining unit in all activities related to securing a collective bargaining agreement covering all matters related to employment.
- Coordinate and evaluate the organizing of groups of nurses for the primary purpose of securing recognition of NYSNA as the collective bargaining agent on all employment matters.
- Develop new leaders within the organization and build a strong organization through action and increased internal organizing.
- Identify potential contacts within a community to gain support for organizing, especially larger organizing drives.
- Develop, implement and monitor the organizing campaign. Set standards, goals, time frames and identify the “issues” of the campaign.
- Develop plans and guidelines for using volunteer organizers.
- Evaluate and assist in establishing community coalition/alliances where appropriate.
