          ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

 

AFSCME MN Council 5 is seeking applicants for the position of Accounting Specialist.  A job description and qualifications for the position are shown below.

This Accounting Specialist position is full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM and shall be based out of the South St. Paul office.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Process deductions for local dues.
  • Preparation of non-recurring financial reports related to dues payments.
  • Preparation of figures for recurring reports related to member and PEOPLE numbers.
  • Process membership cards and other documents related to full members and fair share members.
  • Provide support to MNPEOPLE committee.
  • Prepare and provide audit work papers to external auditor at fiscal year end.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with, and ability to, operate a computer with various business-related software packages.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience with the overall operations of a business office.
  • High level of proficiency and accuracy with mathematical calculations.
  • Significant degree of proficiency in data entry and typing skills.
  • High degree of proficiency in working with detailed work assignments that require extreme accuracy.
  • Possess a demeanor that displays patience, diplomacy and tactfulness in dealings with co-workers, members, and outside contacts.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and work habits that are orderly and efficient.
  • Effective phone skills and the ability to articulate information both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to quickly determine and balance work priorities while recognizing the needs of the various requestors.
  • Ability to quickly detect discrepancies in verifying financial information and to independently determine the appropriate source to contact to discuss and arrive at a solution.
  • Adhere to all corporate policies and procedures.  This job is guided by past practice and procedure, and applicable state and federal laws.

 

This job requires good attendance due to external and internal timelines that must be met.  This job will limit time periods available for personal time off due to the nature of the job and its’ deadlines.
