NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY

Position Title:  Organizer

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy and process to maintain and increase MNA union representation among registered nurses in Minnesota.

Protect and defend the Association while working to advance the mission and goals of MNA.
 
Apply a model of internal organizing to engage and mobilize MNA members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement organizing campaigns for new MNA Bargaining Units;
  • Maintain a database of workers in an organizing campaign;
  • Develop work site organizing committees;
  • Communicate with non-union nurses on the benefits of unionization, inoculation and organizing processes with daily check-ins to the lead organizer or director of organizing.
  • Maintain files of past and current organizing campaigns;
  • Create and maintain a network of contacts with people in MNA’s organizing jurisdiction, including non-union workers at facilities which employ MNA members and union staff that represent other health care workers;
  • With the internal communications specialist, develop communication plan related to organizing drive including newsletters, brochures and other types of printed material;
  • Maintain an awareness of organizing activity in the area locally and with nurses nationally;
  • Provide information and explanation of applicable labor law, contract negotiation, and enforcement;
  • Assist in bargaining first contracts for newly organized units;
  • Support internal organizing activities for existing MNA bargaining units;
  • Support member mobilization activities;
  • Identify issues and assist in development of mobilization campaigns;
  • Support and assist MNA staff in political activities of the Association;
  • Work with other MNA staff and MNA members in the implementation of external and internal organizing and member mobilization activities; 


Qualifications:

  • RN preferred
  • Minimum of two years organizing and/or mobilizing experience required, including acting as the lead on an organizing campaign. Working with nurses and/or health care workers preferred. Health care organizing experience preferred.
  • Available for extensive overnight travel.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

As established per MNA/MNASO Collective Bargaining Agreement
