Maine AFL-CIO Mobilization Coordinator

The Maine AFL-CIO Mobilization Coordinator, is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing certain Maine AFL-CIO legislative, political and issue campaigns.  The Mobilization Coordinator is an employee of the Maine AFL-CIO and works in partnership with the National AFL-CIO. 

The expected duration of this position is six months with the possibility of  extension provided additional funding available.

Maine AFL-CIO Mobilization Coordinator

Overview of Responsibilities

The Maine AFL-CIO Mobilization Coordinator, is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing certain Maine AFL-CIO legislative, political and issue campaigns.  The Mobilization Coordinator is an employee of the Maine AFL-CIO and works in partnership with the National AFL-CIO. 

Description of Duties

  • Works with the Maine AFL-CIO staff & Executive Board, local union leadership, central labor councils as well as affiliate regional and state directors and the National AFL-CIO to develop and implement federal and state legislative campaigns.
  • Works with the Maine AFL-CIO staff & Executive Board, local union leadership, and central labor councils to develop & coordinate aspects of the Maine AFL-CIO’s political program including building and maintaining ongoing political structures for mobilization; and working with affiliates to develop local union mobilization plans.
  • Presents training programs for CLC’s and affiliated unions on political action, membership education and mobilization, legislative issues and federation strategy.
  • Assists in implementing and coordinating affiliate support campaigns, other solidarity work, and miscellaneous state and national AFL-CIO projects.
  • Works together with Maine AFL-CIO staff, officers and relevant committees on aspects of organizational communications, ongoing organizational development, and key organizational conventions, conferences and meetings.  

Supervision & Reporting

The Director works under the direct supervision of the Maine AFL-CIO President and Executive Director.

  • Prepares and submits reports as requested.

  • Experience with union leaders and members
  • Experience with legislative and political campaigns
  • Strong writing, research, communication & listening skills
  • Strong listening and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people
  • Flexible, creative and highly motivated
  • Ability to work independently within the context of a plan
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to use basic word processing, database programs and email
  • Able to work long and irregular hours and weekends
  • Able to travel on a regular basis

Duration

  • The expected duration of this position is six months with the possibility of an extension provided additional funding available.
