STAFF ORGANIZER REPRESENTATIVES

We have openings for Staff Organizer Representatives on the Eastern Shore and in Baltimore.

Responsibilities:

  • Represents membership at step 3 grievances and appeals.
  • Advises local officers and stewards on grievance investigations and steps 1 and 2.
  • Mobilizes membership on group grievances and work place issues.
  • Trains and develops stewards and officers in grievances and other aspects of their duties.
  • Recruits new stewards and leaders.
  • Recruits new members through housevisits and sitevisits.
  • Visits sites within assigned turf to execute organizing campaign plans.
  • Plans and executes internal organizing campaigns with local unions and the council.
  • Plans and executes PEOPLE drives.

Qualifications:

  • At least one year of successful union organizing or servicing experience.
  • Ability to move workers to get involved with the union.
  • Ability to articulate how a union works.
  • Familiarity with MD State and Higher Education Labor Board hearings and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers and members.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and gather information for negotiations, arbitrations, strategy development and other servicing and organizing activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work long and irregular hours and weekends. Some travel required.

We offer a salary range of $38,000 - $55,000 (commensurate with experience.) and excellent benefits.
