ENGINEER

The National Labor College (NLC) is seeking a full-time Engineer to work a regular shift from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. five days a week, including one weekend shift.  This is a bargaining unit position with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 99.  Pay and benefits are excellent.  The successful candidate will report to the Chief Engineer and will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of all buildings during his/ her shift.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs emergency repairs as necessary and all maintenance tasks or preventative maintenance tasks. 
  • Conducts periodic inspections and tests of equipment installations in accordance with state licensing requirements and procedures.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment, tools, and initiates requisitions for replacements.
  • Maintains and repairs all equipment and appliances.
  • Responsible for all OSHA safety practices, and participates in training on an on-going basis.
  • Provides emergency, on call service.
  • Participates in staff development opportunities to enhance job-related skills and knowledge.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other tasks as may be assigned by the Chief Engineer or designee.

 

Requirements:

  • DC Engineers 3rd Class license or Maryland 2nd Class Steam license and a minimum of five (5) years mechanical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in a variety of mechanical engineering assignments including production, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Demonstrated strong HVAC skills, including centralized heat, gas, water, steam, and others in accordance with requirements of Chief Boiler Inspector.
  • CFC certification universal.
  • Must be able to work independently and under occasional stressful conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a member of or willing to join IUOE

Preferred:

  • College, hotel, or conference center experience
