SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION
Organizing is about the struggle to transform peoples lives by empowering them to make gains in areas that matter to them and their families like wages, benefits, respect and a voice on the job.  At Local 888 we do that by bringing people into the Union. 

In the External Organizing Department we organize workers to win union representation in their work places and then to support them in bargaining and winning first contracts.  The External Organizing Department also works with members and the community to support legislative campaigns that impact workers‘ rights to organize.

The External Organizing Administrator provides in-house support to the external organizing team.  In-house support includes data management, information systems and industry research.  The Administrator is responsible for managing and working with data and other information for the external organizing department including preparing lists, maps, spreadsheets and reports for the the organizers.   We utilize several customized data systems that we will train the candidate to use.  During campaigns the external organizing staff, including the Administrator, work long and sometimes irregular hours.  In addition, the ideal candidate should have some experience with research, data analysis, database management, campaigns and experience working with government agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A commitment to justice for working people
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours including some weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team 
  • Ability to work with and master in-house database and web-based programs (some data entry)
  • Experience working with spreadsheets and presentation software such as power-point.
  • Skill in data analysis and data management
  • Writing and research
  • Attention to detail

  • Women, persons of color, bilingual individuals and Local 888 members are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, is helpful but not required.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with experience, range from $38,000-$51,000.  Full benefit package including employer paid insurances (healthcare, STD/LTD, dental/vision), pension, sick, personal, vacation time, holidays.  This position is in the bargaining unit (USWA-United Staff Workers Union).
