RESEARCHER
SEIU Local 615
Local 615 is the 17,000 member property service local for New England representing janitors, custodians, carpenters, food service workers, engineers, security officers and maintenance workers employed in the commercial office, residential, and higher education sectors. Local 615 is committed to organizing to protect and to raise the standards in the property service industry and to building a strong Union based on membership participation and leadership development.
Local 615 is looking for a researcher to support its organizing work in the private security industry in particular and the property services industry in general.
Job Description
-
Compile, research, and summarize data on industries, companies, individuals and issues in support of Local 615’s organizing or bargaining objectives
-
Collects data from a variety of documentary and human sources.

Assist in data input, monitoring the integrity of data and maintenance of the computer database files
-
Answer requests for information in a timely manner
-
Analysis of growth and development plans of key market players
-
Track market and industry trends within a specific geography and industry including performing a market analysis of target industries.

Development and Execution of a research work plan that reflects campaign objectives Assist the Organizing Director in the selection of appropriate organizing/campaign targets

Participate in discussions of campaign tactics that fulfill the campaign strategy
-
Execution of Tactics consistent with Campaign Strategy

Complete analysis of policy issues which affect the target industry;

ID, document, file and prepare witnesses for legal violation cases

Understands strategic campaigns and their role in Union organizing

Communicate problems and concerns to the Lead Organizer or Division Director
-
Conduct and interpret basic financial analysis of public and private entities in support of organizing.

Attends and participates with some assistance in regulatory board hearings, community meetings, etc.
- Produces written materials for both internal and public use (including whitepapers)
Job Qualifications

A demonstrated commitment to progressive social change and past activist experience
-
Competence in a variety of research methods (interview, computer-based, etc.) policy analysis skills,
-
Excellent writing and speaking ability;

Good quantitative skills
-
Competence in the use and maintenance of various database and spreadsheet programs
-
Able to work according to deadlines in a fast-paced team environment
-
Must be able to communicate effectively in writing as well as verbally
-
Must be willing and able to travel within and outside of the local union’s jurisdiction for the purposes of campaign work, support work for national union priorities or education/training opportunities
-
Must have a valid drivers license
Pay commensurate with experience; benefits are excellent including health insurance, pension and paid vacation leave.
