ORGANIZING
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
The
Laborers’ International Union, North America’s largest, most progressive
and aggressive construction workers’ union, is seeking energetic and
committed Organizing Communications Managers to help tens of thousands
of construction laborers unite for economic and social justice in the
residential construction industry in Riverside – San Bernardino, Phoenix
and Las Vegas.
Responsibilities
.. In coordination with others, help draft, develop and implement
a full communications strategy for metro-wide residential organizing
efforts that will successfully inform, persuade and mobilize several
audiences, including:
- Residential
construction workers
- Residential
construction developers and contractors
- Leaders in local
religious, civic, environmental, immigrant rights and other community-based
groups
- Local and state
elected and appointed public officials and their staffs
- News media
- Home-buyers
- In coordination
with local and national organizers, campaign communications managers
will use all available communications vehicles including web, email,
textmessaging, print, radio, natural and created events, and other
methods to deliver high-impact messages crafted for the above audiences.
Requirements
- Exceptional
listening and oral and written communications skills
- Spanish-language
fluency
- At least three
years of media outreach experience at various levels, including with
national, local and specialty print and broadcast journalists with
a record of earned coverage
- Experience preparing
news releases and preparing and designing flyers, brochures, white
papers and pamphlets, and a strong eye for communicating graphically
and visually
- Experience organizing
media events
- Ability to update
website content with a content management system
- Experience in
facilitating production of radio spots and working with radio news
directors and producers
- Ability to work
as part of a team, and to take initiative, in coordination with others,
to reach goals
- Deep-rooted commitment
to fairness and justice for working people
- Ability to work
hours as needed, and the ability to adjust to changing circumstances
in a fast-paced, high-pressure campaign-mode environment
- Willingness and
ability to take on other responsibilities as needs arise
Preferred
- Familiarity
with union organizing or other progressive grassroots organizing efforts
as an organizer or field-based communications specialist
