COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
ORGANIZING AND FIELD SERVICES
Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience

DUTIES: Our fast-paced organizing campaign office in Lexington, KY, seeks a dedicated and creative assistant to implement communications strategies for our organizing drive among state workers.  AFSCME is the largest AFL-CIO union and represents 1.6 million, ethnically diverse, white and blue collar workers in public service throughout the US and its territories. The qualified person will have a combination of experience in communicating through print and/or electronic media, social networking, radio, video, direct mail, events and other means.  He or she will have worked in political, labor or community organizing and grassroots initiatives.  Candidate may be asked prepare materials for speeches, flyers, leaflets and support other activities carried out by the campaign.  This position will include single coverage health insurance. 

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree and with some knowledge of labor and media relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong MS Office Suite and basic graphic design (InDesign or Quark) experience preferred.  Must be able to work extended hours. Valid drivers license necessary.  Applicant must have own vehicle.
