Application Procedure: The Illinois Education Association/NEA is experiencing several UniServ Director vacancies due to retirements. IEA utilizes a UniServ Readiness Pool process for the hiring of UniServ Directors. The attached UniServ Employment Policy outlines this process. IEA-NEA UniServ Employment Policy The Executive Director shall advertise for and seek candidates for UniServ vacancies on a statewide and national basis. Applicants shall be screened and interviewed by the Director of Field Services or designee. Acceptable candidates shall be recommended to the Board or Executive Committee by the Executive Director and, if approved, shall be placed in an employment readiness pool. When a vacancy occurs in a UniServ position, a selection committee shall be formed which represents the locals in the UniServ area. At least one member of the selection committee shall be an ethnic minority member. The Director of Field Services or designee shall meet with the selection committee to train the committee for the interview process and to review the qualifications of appropriate candidates in the readiness pool plus any existing staff who may have applied for a transfer. A reasonable number of candidates from the pool, of which there shall be representation of both minority and female, but not fewer than three, shall be selected by the Selection Committee in consultation with the Director of Field Services or designee to be interviewed by the committee. If an acceptable candidate is not found in the first group, another group may be selected to be interviewed. Each group must have both minority and female representation. At least six candidates will be made available to the Selection Committee for interview if requested. Once a candidate has been selected, employment may commence immediately but not sooner than is permitted by the IEA/IEASO Contract. UniServ Director Job Description FUNCTION: Provides assistance and training to local association leaders and members, and implements the policies and programs of the IEA-NEA. RESPONSIBILITIES: STAFF AUTHORITY AND RELATIONSHIPS: Directly responsible to the assigned Area Coordinator, Director of Field Services and Executive Director.
