AFT HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECT ORGANIZER

Job Description:

  This is a full-time temporary position for a project organizer to help in building a Faculty organizing committee at the University of Illinois Chicago campus. Organizers are responsible for a variety of aspects of a campaign including building relationships with faculty, recruiting organizing committee members, helping assess support for collective bargaining, and increasing and sustaining motivation of organizing committee members and activists.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, experience and background indicating capabilities in organizing;
  • Demonstrated commitment to empower workers through the labor movement;
  • Previous community and/or labor organizing;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to take direction and work well on a team;
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as required;
  • Computer literacy particularly with Microsoft Office software;
  • Valid driver’s license/car;
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is negotiable based upon experience
Mileage reimbursement at IRS standard rates, 401(k) retirement, vacation, sick leave and paid holidays.
