PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Job Title: Program Director
Working America, the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is one of the fastest growing organizations for working people in the country. With 2.5 million members, Working America recruits and mobilizes people who do not have a union on the job to fight for good jobs and a just economy. The Program Director will research issues and materials for popular education and monitor relevant legislation at the national and state levels.
Reports to: Executive Director
Duties:
- Oversee policy, in conjunction with the AFL-CIO, on key national issues;
- Research and recommend program campaigns in the field; maximize effectiveness of grassroots power of 2.5 million member organization to affect public policy;
- Represent Working America to allied organizations and elected representatives;
- Research issues and prepare educational materials for one page flyers, fact sheets, background memorandums, web campaigns, phone scripts, talking points, etc;
- Brief field staff regularly on developments on key issues;
- Research legislation and bill status at the national and state levels; advise canvass leadership on issue campaigns;
- Research candidate positions on issues.
Qualifications:
- Excellent writing and verbal skills.
- Ability to represent Working America to a variety of allies and audiences.
- Excellent ability to manage multiple deadlines, maintain good records and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of programmatic and field campaigning.
- Experience with labor movement preferred.
- Must work well with a team.
- Some travel required.
Job Particulars
Salary is based on experience and includes medical insurance and 401(k) with employer contribution.
