EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR
Working America,
the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is the fastest growing organization
for working people in the country. With more than 2 million members
recruited since 2003, Working America recruits and mobilizes people
who do not have a union on the job in support of working families' issues.
The Executive Assistant
provides support to the Director of Working America, including day-to-day
functions and duties related to the Working America's field, fundraising,
membership and web programs. The Executive Assistant also supports the
Director in her work with the AFL-CIO Executive Council and the Working
America Education Fund.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain calendar
and schedule of the Executive Director;
- Review incoming
correspondence and materials;
- Make travel arrangements
for the Executive Director and other staff as needed;
- Exercise political
judgment with public contacts;
- Exercise judgment
and discretion in facilitating staff communications including composing
letters and distributing materials;
- Coordinate overall
administrative needs and office systems for headquarters;
- Prepare presentation
materials for Executive Director;
- Prepare routine
reports including expense statements, travel authorizations, processing
invoices;
- Prepare responses
to inquiries and other correspondence including copy-editing and reformatting;
- Manage contacts
and records for the Working America Board of Directors, the Working
America Education Fund Board of Directors, and for the AFL-CIO Executive
Council Committee on Working Women.
- Meeting and conference
scheduling, planning and execution;
- Assist in the
administration of human resource functions for headquarters staff
in conjunction with the Accounting Department;
- Track Leave and
Attendance for headquarters staff and national field staff;
- Enter payroll
for headquarters and national field staff;
- Create and maintain
filing system for both hard copy and e-files;
- Use of computer
database and spreadsheet software for planning and tracking;

content and purpose of the work;

- Ability to work
overtime;
- Proficient knowledge
of standard office software, including Excel, MSWord, Power Point,
Microsoft Access and GroupWise. Must be comfortable with the Internet.
Computer, clerical
and typing testing required. Salary is dependent on experience.
