NETWORK
ADMINISTRATOR

Reports to: Deputy Director, I.T.
Summary:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, I.T., the Network
Administrator is responsible for all of the hardware, software and telecommunication
components of UNITE HERE's wide area network.
Job Responsibilities
(include but are not limited to):
- Ensure that the
network and its applications are available to UNITE HERE's authorized
users.
- Assist in the
design, selection, development and implementation of network hardware,
telecommunication equipment, cabling and network management systems
to address the user needs.
- Oversee any staff
assisting in the network implementation process.
- Set-up, maintain,
and delete users and their files.
- Install network
hardware and software.
- Establish user
access to network resources.
- Schedule the
preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual backup of data and
programs to safeguard against possible disaster, in the absence of
the Network Analyst.
- Monitor the performance
of the file and application servers in the absence of the Network
Analyst.
- Perform hardware
and software upgrades.
- Provide ongoing
support to users in the daily use of the systems implemented, including
but not limited to troubleshooting and resolving network problems,
training new users, answering questions and suggesting methods to
increase user productivity.
- Add maintenance
procedures for new software installed, if any, to daily, weekly, monthly,
quarterly and/or annual maintenance schedule.
- Maintain Help
Desk database with problem logs identifying the type of problem encountered
and the procedures followed to resolve each problem.
- Ensure the integrity
of the security of all network resources, including e-mail access,
network files and folders, etc.
- Prepare and maintain
technical manuals and network diagrams, where vendor documentation
is not sufficient.
- Distribute technical
user friendly briefs and standards.
- Assist other
members of the I.T. Department staff, as necessary.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Education or
equivalent experience: BS in computer science, CNE and/or MCSE certifications,
or equivalent work experience administering a wide area network in
a high-pressured office environment.
- Specialized knowledge
or skills: Knowledge of wide and local area network hardware and software,
client/server hardware and software, PC hardware, printers, and PC
software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
and Support Magic Help Desk software.
- Additional qualifications:
Interested in improving productivity with computers; excellent wide
and local area network, client/server, hardware and software troubleshooting,
problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
