VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

PROJECT FIELD ORGANIZER
December 18, 2009

A Project Field Organizer position is available in the National Treasury Employees Union’s (NTEU) Field Operations and Organizing Department.  The position will be located in Pennsylvania, with the specific work locations to be determined later. The position is temporary, not to exceed three years, subject to the success of NTEU’s organizing efforts.

The job generally requires the incumbent to: recruit agency employees at targeted locations to support NTEU; to persuade and train volunteers to recruit their coworkers; to develop work-site based committees of volunteers; to identify other organizing leads at other locations; and to build an overall base of support for NTEU at targeted locations to enable NTEU to prevail in an election campaign.  As the campaign progresses, incumbents may be called upon to provide representation to agency employees in relatively basic agency administrative proceedings (e.g., grievance meetings, replies to proposed disciplinary actions).  Incumbents will not be assigned cases to handle before third party neutrals or complex legal writing tasks, such as post-hearing briefs.

Relevant experience includes: implementing a nationwide organizing campaign at specific locations through one-on-one recruitment and the development of local organizing committees.  Experience in labor or other community organizing activities; public speaking, and teaching is desirable.  Leadership capabilities, strong oral communication skills, strong organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are important to successful performance in the position.   Extensive travel is required.

The position offers a very competitive salary and benefits. Salary is negotiable depending upon experience.  Anyone interested in applying for the position should apply soon s possible to:
