SALARY RANGE:  $84,891 – $107,176                             DEPARTMENT:  Human Resources, Washington, DC

POSITION EMPHASIS:  The position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3.2 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing a dynamic and creative wellness program that contributes to employee health and wellness and has a long-term effect on employee insurance program costs.

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position leads and coordinates the NEA Employee Health and Wellness Program.  The incumbent is responsible for designing, promoting, and executing wellness training and program activities including health awareness classes, health risk assessment programs, health fair and biometric screening events, and health educational material support.  The incumbent facilitates and creates a culture of health and wellness through health coaching and other health promotion activity coordination.  The incumbent works with the HR Manager of Employee and Labor Relations and other appropriate NEA staff to coordinate medically-related employee relations matters, including independent medical examinations (IME’s), workers compensation claims, disability claims and other medically-related matters. The incumbent is responsible for providing worksite medical services.   In addition, the incumbent represents NEA on appropriate labor-management committees, oversees the NEA Fitness Center and is responsible for ensuring that equipment is current and properly maintained.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  Nursing degree.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Current license as Registered Nurse, three years work experience as a nurse, three years work experience involving wellness program management; computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software and Internet; certification in CPR; knowledge of Worker’s Compensation and OSHA laws.  OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Work samples may be required at interview. Availability to work extended hours on evenings and weekends. Occasional travel required.


SELECTION CRITERIA
TIER 1 (Essential):  Demonstrated experience leading an employee wellness program at the corporate, public, or community level; significant familiarity with corporate wellness programs; demonstrated creativity in developing, implementing and marketing wellness programs; significant experience providing worksite medical services; experience with and knowledge of basic medical equipment including, but not limited to, AED devices, blood pressure apparatus, thermometer, oxygen equipment; effective interpersonal, customer service and communication skills to interact with all levels of staff and governance.   Successful references.  TIER 2 (Significant):  Knowledge of and experience in implementing ergonomic programs; experience working with Employee Assistance Programs (EAP’s), including marketing EAP services; experience working on employee committees; experience analyzing statistical information to identify employee health trends and to track progress and identify future wellness program needs; experience evaluating wellness programs and activities and preparing concise, accurate reports.  Tier 3 (Desirable):  Demonstrated experience providing training on health and wellness matters; experience working in a non-profit association and/or labor organization environment; degrees and/or certifications in related fields such as wellness, nutrition, health education, public health and/or health coach.
