EDUCATION
ASSISTANT (INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER)
We are an international
labor organization that is seeking an individual that will be responsible
for developing and implementing interactive online modules, traditional
instructor led courses, and websites for IAFF leaders and affiliates.
The duties of
this position include:
- Creates interactive
instructor led modules and websites for IAFF leaders and affiliates.
- Ensures that
the learning objectives meet the educational needs of fire fighters
who work in various political and legal environments across the United
States and Canada.
- Conducts surveys,
and meets with affiliate leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs)
to develop topics for curriculum development.
- Conducts research
through the Internet, industry publications, and other tools to develop
subject matter content in the development of curricula and consults
with SMEs.
- Develops instructional
plan and pilots new training programs to IAFF affiliate leaders.
- Cooperates with
other team members in the department to ensure the delivery of high
quality curriculum products.
- Coordinates
and facilitates training for the Partnership Education Program (PEP),
Affiliate Leadership Training Summit (ALTS) and Ernest A. "Buddy"
Human Relations (HR) Conferences. Develops the marketing materials
for these events and is required to work on-site.
- Staffs marketing
booths at IAFF conferences and conventions.
- Coordinates
training materials and mass mailings sent to affiliates for training
programs.
- Develops class
topics, flyers, brochures in support of, and marketing of conferences.
- Writes articles
for IAFF publications, gathers graphics, and takes photographs to
support curriculum or other marketing materials.
- Recruits and
trains IAFF instructors, coordinates and assigns instructors to teaching
assignments at IAFF sponsored events.
- Updates, revises
and teaches curriculum as needed.
- Works with Instructional
Technologist to develop online training modules.
- Performs other
related work duties as required to support the mission and goals of
the department.
Graduation from
an accredited college or university with at least a bachelors degree
in Secondary Education, Instructional Design, Training, or other related
field with at least two (2) years of experience in developing interactive
online and instructor-led curricula and programs that provides the following
knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of
instructional design methodology and training curriculum development.
- Knowledge and
understand of the utility of Web technology including HTML, Adobe
Acrobat, CSS, Web browsers, graphics, etc.
- Knowledge of
and experience with adult learning practices, theories and programs.
- Knowledge of
labor unions or other advocacy organizations.
- Ability work
cooperatively using excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate
effectively, both orally and in writing using standard grammar.
- Ability to make
presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to lead
and manage projects and follow-up under established timelines.
- Ability work
cooperatively using excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to quickly
adapt to changing situations for the purpose of accomplishing results.
- Ability to identify
learning objectives to meet fire fighters' learning goals.
- Ability to collect
and analyze information.
- Ability to handle
multiple projects and meet established timelines.
- Applies instructional
systems design (ISD) theory and methodology to
- Skilled in the
use of modern office equipment such as personal computers and fax
as well as audio and video equipment.
- Skilled in the
use of Microsoft Office Suite including Intermediate Word, Excel,
the Internet, Outlook, Power Point and other instructional design
and database software.
We offer a stable,
collegial working environment with excellent compensation and working
conditions. The starting annualized salary is in the mid $60's, with
semi-annual increases that brings the annualized salary to the $70's
after two years. An excellent benefit package includes retirement benefits
(for eligible employees), a non-contributory health plan and generous
paid leave benefits. Tuition reimbursement is also offered for job-related
courses. The standard workday is 6.5 hours (with a 1 hour unpaid lunch).
Our office is located
in central downtown Washington, DC and is within walking distance to
both Blue/Orange Line and Red Line Metrorail stations.
