RESEARCHER AND REPRESENTATIVE

Job Announcement
Researcher and Representative
Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO (DPE)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Propose, develop, and update fact sheets and economic reports on subjects of interest to unions representing professional and technical employees
  • Assist in recruiting and supervising graduate student interns
  • Reach out to professional associations for DPE and its affiliated unions: work with association committees, develop programs and policies, create and disseminate materials

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Speak in public and moderate programs
  • Write talking points, flyers, notices, introductions, letters, and articles
  • Represent DPE at meetings
  • Monitor press, academic and other documents for developments affecting professional and technical workers
  • Special projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Evidence of strong analytical, writing, editing, and speaking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex information clearly in varied written and oral formats
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate inside and outside an organization
  • Willingness to undertake occasional travel
  • Tact, discretion, and diplomacy
  • Familiarity with organized labor
  • Experience working on labor rights, human rights, or social justice issues
  • Prefer master’s or professional degree in economics, labor relations, sociology, or other relevant discipline

Employment Terms:
Salary depends on experience; outstanding union benefits; start date negotiable; position reports to President and Executive Director and assists in overseeing work of graduate student interns; with experience and accomplishment, potential for expanded responsibilities; small collegial staff in high visibility setting
