Accounting Clerk II - Travel
OPEIU GRADE A4
Financial Services Department
Salary Range: $34,677 - $54,444

Processes, reconciles and reports on a variety of accounting and financial transactions according to department procedures involving analysis of information. Maintains records, logs, and files of activities. Complexity of work identified by the variety of accounting activities assigned, the amount of analysis required or the variety of information sources, and applying specialized knowledge to analyses.

DUTIES: Audits and reconciles field expense reports and other travel expenses against reported amounts paid. Receives and reviews source documents and accompanying documents for accuracy and completeness. Processes information by comparing, calculating and/or transferring information to other data sources. Performs complex reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data transfer or accuracy of monies received against source documents. Compares information to stated policy to ensure adherence to AFSCME financial policies. Prepares required forms to complete processing transactions. Researches and follows up on unreported items, unused airline tickets, and other delinquent accounts. Follows up with employees and originating department staff on missing or inaccurate information via phone or written correspondence. Copies source documents as required and forwards to other phases of processing. Enters data from expense reports into travel and expense system. Informs employees of unresolved expense issues, delinquent charged expenses and other outstanding expense issues and works with them toward resolution. Maintains files of source documents and other statistical and informational reports of processing activities. Prepares and maintains subsidiary schedules and other summary or detailed reports using Excel Speadsheets or the Travel System, as necessary. May provide assistance to department by answering phones, opening and distributing mail, or performing other general clerical tasks. May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate and two to three years experience in an accounting environment performing a variety tasks desired any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to handle multiple tasks while working with minimal supervision; manage time effectively to meet deadlines. Has demonstrated a high degree of organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency with a personal computer, 10 key calculator and in the use of MS Excel software is required. Experience with MSWord is required. Experience with the use of PC accounting software (eg; Quickbooks, NavigatER Travel System) is desirable. This position requires heavy data entry. Periodic overtime is required.
