BARGAINING UNIT POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: GENERAL ACCOUNTANT - ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
CLASSIFICATION: TECHNICAL
STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

Summary of Position: The General Accountant-Accounts Payable is responsible for processing all accounts payable vouchers, including account coding and researching and resolving minor issues with vendors. S/he is responsible for processing checks and filing.

Basic Qualifications: The General Accountant-Accounts Payable must have a basic understanding of accounting theory and have a good understanding of government grant regulations including A-122 and A-110. S/he must be able to work independently in order to complete assigned analysis. S/he must be familiar with basic accounting techniques and tasks such as travel claim reconciliations, account analysis, preparation of journal vouchers etc. S/he must be detailed oriented and produce accurate work. S/he must have a bachelor's degree in business administration and/or clearly demonstrate an equivalent understanding of accounting theory and practice, and must have a working knowledge of Excel spreadsheet applications. Minimum of three years experience in accounting is required.

Specific Duties:

  • Review all accounts payable vouchers to assure that they have been properly authorized;
  • Allocate costs and prepare account coding for certain invoices, such as telephone UPS, messenger delivery, and local transportation services;
  • Process all vouchers and maintain the aging log of Accounts Payable ledger accounts;
  • Print checks and prepare for signature;
  • Send out signed checks and file documentation;
  • Research vendor payments/accounts as required;
  • Prepare 1099's for all vendors/consultants as required;
  • Maintain vendor and invoice files;
  • Serve as back up for the bank wire and cash transfer functions;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

The duration of this position, as with all positions at the Solidarity Center, is contingent upon continued grant funding.
