STAFF NEGOTIATOR

POSITION:              Staff Negotiator
STATUS:                 Exempt
LOCATION:             International Office - Washington, DC
SALARY:                 Grade 4, Step 1 ($74,865) to Step 5 ($93,758)
                               Commensurate with experience; Excellent Benefits Package

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA-CWA) seeks an experienced Staff Negotiator to conduct negotiations of flight attendant collective bargaining agreements with air carriers on behalf of the union. Candidates must have a minimum of five years labor negotiations experience (Railway Labor Act experience is preferred). Conduct of grievance mediation and/or labor arbitration as an advocate of the union may also be required. Candidates must possess excellent writing,
communication, and computer skills, as well as self-confidence, demonstrate leadership characteristics, and the ability to exercise sound independent judgement. Knowledge of and familiarity with the air transportation industry and flight attendant contracts are a plus. Extensive travel and frequent irregular hours are required. RELOCATION TO WASHINGTON, DC, MAY NOT BE REQUIRED.

REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide negotiations assistance to union governing bodies, e.g., advise and direct the negotiating committee, draft negotiations questionnaires, opening proposals and counter proposals for use in the collective bargaining process and schedule negotiating sessions, participate in negotiations, etc;
  • Advise and train union members in negotiations and union representation in accordance with the Railway Labor Act;
  • Participate in projects that relate to collective bargaining such as membership mobilization;
  • Act as liaison between the AFA-CWA International Office, negotiating committee and National Mediation Board.
  • Participate, as required, in grievance and system board cases and training.
