TTD INTERNSHIP

About TTD

The Transportation Trades Department (TTD), the transportation umbrella organization of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).  TTD represents the interests of several million aviation, rail, transit, trucking, highway and longshore workers before Congress, the Executive Branch and independent government agencies.  Through TTD, the working men and women who are represented by the Department's 32 member unions have a strong, united voice in Washington, D.C. Duties

TTD is seeking one intern for the spring semester to support the daily operations of the organization’s public policy work. Interns will have regular interaction with professional staff and will report to TTD’s Policy Analyst.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct research and track legislation and regulations on aviation, rail, maritime, and transit labor issues;
  • Attend Congressional briefings and hearings and labor legislative meetings;
  • Review reports on transportation issues and brief TTD policy staff;
  • Track particular roll call votes and update records; and
  • Assist with clerical and administrative functions, as needed.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess: a commitment to the goals of the labor movement; strong oral and written communications skills and organizational skills; excellent research and analytical skills; an ability to work independently and handle multiple projects; and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.  

Preference will be given to those familiar with the labor movement, with knowledge of the Congressional process, campaign or other political experience, and/or course work in Government, Political Science, Industrial Relations or related fields.

Compensation

Interns will be paid $15/hour and must be available for at least 20 hours/week.
