Job Opening Speed Matters Campaign Coordinator
Job Summary
The Communications Workers of America (CWA) seeks an experienced advocacy issue campaign coordinator
to manage its Speed Matters campaign, a major initiative to bring universal, affordable high-speed broadband to
all Americans and to support union jobs in the communications industry. CWA is a 700,000 member union
representing workers primarily in telecommunications, media, airlines, manufacturing, and public service.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Speed Matters Campaign Coordinator, working under the direction of the Telecommunications Policy
Director, will be responsible for strategic development, management, and coordination of the Speed Matters
campaign. Responsibilities include:
- Implement an aggressive communications program, including media outreach, online communications,
materials development, polling and outreach to policymakers, CWA members and leaders, online activists,
and allied organizations
- Build a strong Broadband Investment coalition and engage key stakeholders
- Identify and mobilize support for key policy initiatives that advance campaign goals
- Initiate policy briefings and public events to promote campaign goals, policies, and programs
- Develop field program to engage CWA rank and file leaders and volunteer activists
- Assist CWA leaders working on state or local Speed Matters projects
- Work with outside consultants
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Minimum five years experience developing, managing, and implementing large-scale, multi-faceted national
issue campaign(s)
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex policy issues and to mobilize public and policymaker support
for campaign initiatives
- Experience building and working with coalitions
- Strong entrepreneurial, organizational, and leadership skills
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines
- Understanding of and commitment to building the union movement
- College degree required
- Basic computer skills, including Word and Excel
- Knowledge and experience in communications policy is desired, but not required
Job Specifications: Two-year contract position located in Washington, D.C. Salary commensurate with
experience.
