SUPERVISOR INTERNAL ORGANIZING

Headquartered in Los Angeles, SEIU Local 99 is one of the largest school employees’ locals within SEIU with over 37,000 members.  SEIU Local 99 represents school employees in K-12 schools, early education programs, community colleges and a county office of education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and mentor a team of Internal Organizers
• Ensure that Organizers are recruiting and developing member leaders who can recruit and mobilize new members to participate in the union, attend rallies and meetings, participate in political activities and give to the political campaign fund
• Develop and execute plans for contract and worksite campaigns for specific issues including budget concerns, contract negotiations, health & safety, etc.
• Receive and resolve complaints from members about staff or from staff about other staff
• Motivate staff to achieve campaign goals and to mentor and develop member leaders

• Become knowledge of all contracts and interpret their application and enforcement
• Learn the employers administrative systems and develop relationships with the employer’s staff
• Observe and advise Organizers conducting  worksite meetings, meet & discuss and labor management meetings
• Participate in political and lobbying activities
• Prepare and manage work plans, calendars, files, reports and other records

• Committed to the social and economic justice of all working people and strengthening the role of organized labor through work actions, community relations and  political activity
• Demonstrates good judgment
• Discerns priorities and meets competing deadlines
• Ability to lead and mobilize a team of employees
• High level of written and oral communication skills
• Must be well organized and self-motivated
• Works long, varied hours including evenings and some weekends
• Spanish speaking a plus
• Own or lease vehicle and maintain valid California’s drivers’ license and insurance policy
