ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

The Assistant Controller will work out of our Los Angeles office

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position works with the Controller of the Local on all aspects of accounting for a large labor union covering regions from Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange County, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire interfacing with current staff of nine. It requires outstanding accounting, budgeting and analytical skills to provide an on-going assistance to the Controller in all accounting functions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Maintain and enhance the accounting/reporting process for all regions, including monthly variance analysis and support for the budgeting and projection process.
  • Validate the accuracy of all accounting entries related to revenue and expenditures.
  • Process accounting transactions for period closings and monthly financial reports for the local entities.
  • Review investment maturities and provide recommendations.
  • Interact and mentor with existing accounting staff in their individual job tasks.
  • Review and maintain insurance coverage's for proper levels.
  • Work with outside auditors on annual audit and filings including development of necessary footnote disclosures.
  • Any other related accounting functions as required.

SKILLS, APTITUDE, AND COMMITMENT:

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High level ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; must be well-organized and self-motivated.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discern priorities.
  • Ability to make effective use of resources available to the union.
  • Dedication to improving the position of working people and strengthening the role of organized labor through work actions, community relations, and legislative and political activity.
  • Ability to work effectively with members and staff from diverse ethnic, social, and economic groups.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A 4 year college degree with a major in Accounting, preferred.
  • 3 years experience in management or supervision preferred.
  • CPA a plus.
  • Accuracy and problem solving nature.
  • Good skills in accounting software.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must possess a valid California driver's license, auto insurance, and an automobile for business use.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary is commensurate based on experience.
