BACKGROUND OF SEIU LOCAL 521: On January 2, 2007, five locals came together to cover the North Central region by forming one larger, more powerful local. On March 1, 2007, Local 521 received its Charter and the resources of all five locals became Local 521. This marked a new beginning for workers. We are now stronger together. Our local represents more than 45,600 workers in North Central California. Our membership includes thousands of public service workers in the Central Valley.
