Union-side Labor Attorney sought for in-house position with progressive SF-Based Local Union Representing & Organizing Technical and Professional Employees UNION ATTORNEY The Engineers and Scientists of California Local 20, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, AFL-CIO, CLC is a dynamic, democratic and activist labor union which represents over 5,000 workers throughout Northern California. The Local has a staff of 14 and is headquartered in San Francisco. ESC Local 20 members are employed principally at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (“PG&E”), Kaiser Permanente, United Airlines, various private and public health care facilities and local and federal government agencies. ESC Local 20 seeks to hire an Attorney to work in its San Francisco headquarters to assist the Business Manager and union field staff in representing the union and union members in labor arbitrations, NLRB litigation related to new organizing and collective bargaining, Railway Labor Act issues, regulatory advocacy at the California Public Utility Commission and the California Clinical Laboratory Technology Advisory Committee, and elsewhere, and in legislative efforts in Sacramento. Starting compensation is firm at around $90,000 annually, with regular union cost of living increases, as well as annual step increases (e.g. 5% per year until top of salary range.) OUTSTANDING BENEFITS including fully employer-paid full-family medical and prescription coverage with no co-pays. Also, the Union provides a 401K employer contribution of 21% of the annual gross salary. Generous vacation, plus 1.5 comp days per month (i.e. 18 comp days per year). In addition, a union car is provided. Qualifications sought for the Attorney include a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, membership in the California Bar, excellent leadership, advocacy, administrative and oral and written communication skills, minimum of 5+ years union work or related experience preferably in representing workers, organizing and political work, progressive personal politics, demonstrated commitment to the labor movement and, or the rights of workers (e.g. community or student activism.) A license to practice law in California is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be headquartered at the ESC office in San Francisco and will travel to worksites and meetings throughout Northern California.
