| UNION REPRESENTATIVE/NEGOTIATOR

SEIU Local 1000 is a cutting-edge labor union that represents 95,000 state employees in nine bargaining units throughout the State of California. We want to talk with you if you’re experienced in bargaining contracts and have a great sense of negotiations strategy.
Duties:
- Serves as or assists rank-and-file staff negotiators in bargaining, meet and confer activities and ratification campaigns.
- Coordinates and attends state-wide meet and confer activities for bargaining units.
- Provides leadership, mentoring and training of employee negotiators and negotiating committees.
- May be assigned to Field, Political Organizing or Representation activities as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Prior experience negotiating contracts, including experience as chief spokesperson, writing contract language, costing and coordinating activities.
- Experience in a research or advocacy capacity, or in presenting cases in formal dispute resolution proceedings such as mediation or arbitration helpful, but not required.
- Ability to work long hours as necessary or travel periodically.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport and credibility with diverse demographic groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and service workers.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science or related field.
- Valid driver's license, car and insurance.
- This position exists in our Contracts Department in Sacramento, and may be classified as a Senior position, depending on experience and qualifications. Knowledge of California’s State Personnel Board, the Department of Personnel Administration, and individual State Departments is very helpful.
