Co-ordinator: COMMUNICATIONS
(Based in EI Head Office Brussels)
Key Role:
In collaboration with co-ordinators with similar responsibilities and other staff of Education International:
To produce all of EI’s published material
To promote the organisation to the media, to the public, to other international organisations and to the member organisations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To produce all EI publications, including Worlds of Education and the Annual Report;
To produce information material, including circular letters and brochures, etc.;
To produce promotional material;
To assist with the strategic planning of the promotional side of campaigns;
To maintain contacts with member union’s editors and communication officers;
To maintain the COMNET, network of communications officers and editors from member organisations;
To prepare and issue press releases on topical issues;
To develop and maintain links with the media;
To design and implement a strategy to promote good public relations;
To carry out program activities allocated to the Communications Unit;
To supervise and co-ordinate the work of the Unit;
To undertake such other appropriate duties as are assigned from time to time.
Qualifications/Experience
A university degree or equivalent in an appropriate field.
Experience as a journalist and/or in publishing.
A minimum of three years working in a trade union or similar environment.
Experience of working with or membership of an international agency or organisation would be an advantage.
Ability to work in English is essential. A good working knowledge of French, Spanish and /or German would be an advantage.

Good written and oral communication and organisational skills
Self-motivated with good leadership skills
Ability to work collaboratively and as an individual
Ability to assume a supervisory role in relation to colleagues
Ability to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment
Ability to work in a demanding and occasionally pressurised role.
Other Information
Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the arrangements agreed between Education International and its staff.
Salary will be on a sixteen point incremental scale ranging from €52.107 to €80.531 gross per year (including bonus month and holiday pay), before deduction of social security contribution and personal taxes. Initial appointment on the scale will be to a point based on relevant experience and qualifications. Appropriate insurances and a pension contribution will also be provided. Non-Belgians will be assisted with moving to Brussels. Full details are available on application.
The post-holder will be based in the EI Head Office in Brussels but the fulfilment of the duties and responsibilities may require some foreign travel.
The appointment will be made from an agreed date after the selection and appointment process is completed.

All EI staff are accountable to the General Secretary, either directly or through designated staff members.If the needs of the organisation so require, staff members may be requested to perform appropriate duties related to another position, either on a temporary or permanent basis, provided that these duties correspond to the level of their position and that their professional experience and training is adequate.Position descriptions are not definitive and may be adapted.
