Director of Community Relations

RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and manage program for leading organization of carpenters and contractors in New York City construction industry to:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local communities in support of creating environment for public and private development consistent with responsible employment and contracting that reflects core values and competencies of union carpenters and contractors.
  • Engage in sustained outreach and interactions with local leaders, organizations and residents through channels including community advocacy groups, faith-based institutions, economic development and business concerns, and public offices.
  • Connect programs of union carpenters and contractors with local communities to promote meaningful and inclusive training, employment, and business opportunity when public and private development occurs.
  • Participate in and organize events, meetings and activities involving union carpenters and contractors and local communities, including preparation of materials, public speaking, and presentations.
  • Manage and coordinate with staff and consultants for research, communications, and media as well as representatives of union carpenters and contractors to facilitate strong relations between industry professionals and local communities.

Reports to Executive Director. Salary commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits including health, retirement and vacation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least seven years of experience in community or external affairs, preferably with background or knowledge of concerns affecting development and construction in New York City.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications and networking skills.
  • Proficient in office computer and data management software and applications.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree (significant career experience may be substituted for this requirement)
  • Reside in or be willing to relocate to New York City metropolitan area.
