Digital Communications Strategist

Based in Sacramento, CA

Job Summary: United Domestic Workers of America (UDW/AFSCME Local 3930) seeks a Digital Communications Strategist to amplify the voices of home care providers and America’s working families. The right person for this job will have a commitment to economic and social justice, and work with our team to create worker-centered communications. We are looking for someone to help us build our online community and take our online presence to the next level. This position is based in Sacramento, CA, but can be remote – must be willing to travel throughout California. We are an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage digital content (writing and graphics) for UDW websites, social media accounts, emails, and text messages. This includes attending events in-person to capture video and other digital content.
  • Work with vendors to develop, launch, and update digital platforms such as websites and mobile apps.
  • Develop and execute a digital advertising plan.
  • Compile web, email and social networking analytics into reports.
  • Maintain the accuracy of UDW’s online content.
  • Respond to social media and online inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Coordinate data collection across digital platforms to update membership records.
  • Increase the number of people in UDW’s online community and levels of engagement.
  • Support other activities related to UDW’s internal and external communications programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create effective, engaging, and visually appealing digital content.
  • Experience coordinating social media strategy and using content management systems.
  • Works well under pressure and with tight deadlines.
  • Able to handle numerous projects at the same time and work independently.
  • The ideal candidate is passionate about social justice, social media, breaking news, and popular culture.
  • Well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to follow verbal instructions.
  • MS Office Suite, Word Press (other platforms like Tumblr and Squarespace a plus), Adobe Creative Suite, Facebook, Twitter, and database and mass email programs (such as Action Network)
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese a plus.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours, sometimes including weekends, to complete projects and support campaigns.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable car.
