Field Manager

Based in Dallas or Fort Worth, TX

The Texas AFL-CIO is a state labor federation consisting of 235,000 affiliated union members.  The Field Manager is responsible for development and implementation of assigned electoral and issue-based campaigns.  The Field Manager will help build community support and outreach to union members and labor friendly voters in North Texas.  This position is a full-time, temporary position that runs until November 2018.  The Field Manager will work directly with the Campaigns Director and organizing staff to implement the federation’s electoral campaigns.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with Federation and affiliated union leadership to determine campaign goals;
  • Work with affiliated unions and community allies to build support for our working families platform and campaign goals;
  • Hire, train and manage field staff;
  • Help develop electoral field operations, including worksite organizing and training, voter registration, phone banking and other related Get Out The Vote activities;
  • Help develop community engagement events, including town halls, trainings, and letter writing campaigns;
  • Generate targeted voter and union member lists for paid and volunteer block walks and phone banks through the voter file system Labor Action Network (LAN);
  • Participate in affiliated union and community ally events and activities ie. organizing programs, rallies, planning sessions, outreach events;
  • Track and manage set budget

Qualifications:

  • Must be strongly committed to the labor movement
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively under timelines
  • Ability to work well with various constituencies
  • Competent writing & verbal skills
  • Excellent leadership skills to facilitate trainings and communications amongst various constituencies, volunteers and paid staff
  • At least two years’ experience working in political, legislative or activist campaigns
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office and a voter file system (Voter Action Network or Labor Action Network)
  • Prior experience working with labor unions or community organizations, or a significant knowledge of work related issues
  • Travel and flexible work schedule required
  • Spanish fluency desired but not required

This job will require long hours and on occasion weekend work.  The salary for the Field Manager is competitive, based on experience, with full health care.  The Texas AFL-CIO encourages women and people of color to apply.
