The 1199SEIU Training & Employment Funds provide education and job training programs for over 40,000 unionized workers represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. Our mission is to develop high quality training, placement and labor-management initiatives. We also aim to develop the ability of union and management to problem-solve difficult issues and to create innovative healthcare solutions.

  • Research, cultivate and identify grant/funding opportunities in the areas of workforce development and health care
  • Develop relationships with donors and collaborate with Training and Employment Fund (TEF) leadership to maintain existing or new funding sources, and make recommendations regarding funding opportunities
  • Write grants and fundraising proposals to be submitted to governmental entities, foundations, public and private corporations
  • Monitor grant submission renewals, maintain and track submission for follow-up utilizing donor management software; provide status reports and updates to leadership
  • Work with TEF leadership to maintain strategic fundraising plans, and keep abreast of industry and union issues in all the regions
  • Work with Communication department to create and update content on TEF websites and promotional materials
  • Assist with planning and execution of current fundraising events
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management
  • Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in development fundraising and grant writing required; to include minimum two (2) years supervisory experience preferred
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred
  • Knowledge of donor management software preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments
