SEIU Local 1000 Success Coordinator

Based in Sacramento, CA

We are seeking a Success Coordinator to support our members who have been accepted into non-traditional union apprenticeship programs. The Success Coordinator assists and advocates for apprentices throughout their apprenticeship term and works closely with both employer and education partners to ensure student success. This is a grant-funded, salaried position located in our Sacramento office. This position reports to the Apprenticeship Coordinator within the Research Department.

About SEIU Local 1000
SEIU Local 1000 represents 95,000 California state employees in nine different bargaining units. Represented employees include professionals, educators, nurses and administrative and support employees. SEIU Local 1000 has approximately 200 employees who work in six offices throughout the state.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs one-on-one meetings and small group outreach to members, apprentices, and applicants.
  • Identifies apprentices’ problems or needs and creates solutions to address those needs.
  • Counsels and coaches apprentices on personal, professional, and academic issues.
  • Problem solves issues on behalf of apprentices working diplomatically with management partners.
  • Assists apprentices in transitioning to college-level academics and in learning to balance academic, personal, and work responsibilities.
  • Manages program logistics, coordinates with employers and educational providers, counseling apprentices and collecting and analyzing data.
  • Engages and collaborates with partners in committee meetings and planning meetings for apprenticeship continuation and development.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with union members, management, and educational providers.
  • Develops, maintains, and analyzes reports related to program objectives and outcomes.
  • Works as a team member along with educational, employer and union partners, as well as other staff.
  • Updates apprenticeship committees, union members, and managers on program developments.
  • Maintains social media groups designed for communications among apprentices.
  • Performs special projects or other duties as required.


  • Superior written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to successfully build trust, inspire and empower others.
  • Knowledge of college structures and academic procedures (i.e. registration, education planning, etc.)
  • Experience working on teams or committees to successfully meet project goals.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing data and information.
  • Experience working within a union or with apprenticeships preferred.
  • Experience tutoring, coaching, or counseling others to achieve successful outcomes preferred.
  • Understanding of labor and management dynamics.
  • Competency in Excel, Word, and social media platforms.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A vehicle, California driver’s license and auto insurance are also required.

The Success Coordinator attends meetings and special events, some of which occur in the evenings or on weekends and require overnight travel.
