AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison Manager

Based in South Florida – Miami, FL

United Way of Miami Dade is looking for an AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison Manager to serve as a liaison between United Way and organized labor to create a collaborate relationship. Serve as a bridge, fostering strong relationships with labor unions to ensure successful United Way campaigns, assist in building strategic initiatives, implement jointly developed programs and connect union members to essential services in times of need.

Responsibilities include:

  • Champion labor support and participation through outreach, programs, initiatives, trainings, and special events.
  • Work closely with United Way Development staff to develop and implement campaign strategies in the workplace that involve labor members.
  • Work closely with Community Impact staff to identify and implement strategic alignment of impact work between United Way and organized labor.
  • Work alongside Director, AFL-CIO Community Services to serve as liaison between the AFL-CIO central labor council and United Way of Miami-Dade.
  • Develop a cooperative relationship between the United Way and organized labor groups and members to improve the provision of the health, welfare, social and other essential service to the community.
  • Support Director, AFL-CIO Community Services to implement community education programs through union/peer counseling classes and Help in Transition Program.
  • Support Director, AFL-CIO Community Services, with information and referral services.
  • Work with Director, AFL-CIO Community Services to plan and organize annual “Labor Lives United” golf tournament to involve members of organized labor and raise additional dollars for United Way of Miami-Dade.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one to three years’ experience in labor movement.

SKILLS: Public speaking, detailed knowledge of community resources, information and referral, case management, training in listening skills, trained as a Union Counselor; general knowledge of organized labor and basic understanding of the local Labor Movement; knowledge of the United Way system; excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the diverse needs of the community. Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite.

SALARY: $38,000 to $40,000
