The position reports to the Logistics Department Director and is responsible for managing aspects of the Logistics Department related to SEIU's programs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)

  • As a member of the Logistics Department's management team, this person directs staff to service the logistical and operational needs of the union.
  • Manages permanent logistics staff and temporary campaign/program staff
  • Works with department leaders and staff to collaborate, strategize and execute logistical and operational support for campaigns, programs, events, meetings, etc.
  • Aids the Logistics Department Director in development, distribution and implementation of necessary materials, best practices, manuals, systems and policies.
  • Works with the Logistics Department Director to consistently implement uniform, efficient and cost-saving systems.
  • Manages all logistics of union-wide events, including meetings, deployments, rallies, coordinating with Local Union leaders and staff, office set up and shut down, vendor relations.
  • Coordinates with SEIU departments and divisions to fully integrate data, training, legal, human resources, accounting and IT needs in to all aspects of planning and implementation.
  • May travel to support logistical and operational needs of campaigns and programs.
  • Serves as a liaison to national partner organizations in coordinating the logistical needs of the union-wide programs.
  • Develops and oversee programs to train International, State Council, and Local Union staff in the use of the Logistics Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of the Logistics Department.


Include SEIU staff, its officers, leaders and members, SEIU Local Unions and State Councils, coalition partners, political entities, non-profits, other support organizations and vendors.

Direction and Decision Making:

This position reports to the Logistics Department Director, works closely with the the Division Directors and their staff, and works independently.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelors degree and three to five years of labor and/or campaign experience and/or a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of logistical and operational needs of union or political campaigns and programs
  • Expertise in systematic implementation of operational support in all types of events
  • Expertise in using political and union organizing technologies, application of SEIU policies and integration with other departments and divisions in all aspects of logistical and operational support
  • Expertise working with travel, lodging, AV, IT, and production vendors
  • Knowledge of campaign and program management and planning activities
  • Ability to operate in politically sensitive situations and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to develop project budgets and manage projects within those constraints
  • Knowledge of unions or other advocacy organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop plans and track critical details and logistics accurately and timely.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet critical timelines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to hire, manage, and develop staff.

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office setting, but may be required to work in other settings conducive to performing the tasks required to complete assignments. Travel and long and extended hours required.
